Correspondence and collected papers on Dada and Surrealism, 1905-1984 (bulk 1956-1979).

Correspondence (ca. 6 lin. ft.) received by Poupard-Lieussou from artists, writers, publishers, critics and scholars mainly between 1956 and 1979. It often includes bio-bibliographic notes, drawings, photographs, printed materials and manuscripts (some of them unpublished or rare texts) given to Poupard by his correspondents or sometimes hand copied by himself. In the letters, they recount their experiences and memories of the early 20th-century avant-garde movements, particularly Dada and Surrealism. Poupard's diligent efforts to gather data for reconstructing the history of Dada movement all over Europe and in America established him as a virtual center of information exchange.
